Informative days in Las Vegas (part 2)
Jun 29, 2017 |
Author: Jean-Francois Bloem

In my previous blog I have already mentioned many important, but general conclusions from The Alliance, which took place this year in the world’s biggest gambling city, Las Vegas. I have written, that besides the roadmap session MCX also attended substantive and technical sessions. Below you will find a summary of the highlights:
Crystal Reports
As you have probably already heard, PeopleTools version 8.55 will no longer support the use of Crystal Reports. The obvious alternative is to migrate all your reports to Oracle BI Publisher.
PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM)
For a while PUM (version 9.2) has been the new PeopleSoft lifecycle management tool.
Bundles or Maintenance Packs no longer exist (all or nothing). PUM now offers the possibility to quickly install a patch for a specific problem, which will automatically include all dependencies. The manual download of patches will therefore be obsolete.
PeopleTools 8.56
PeopleTools 8.56 will be launched this summer. Below is a list of its expected features:
  • PeopleSoft Cloud deployment architecture
PeopleSoft Cloud deployment architecture had already been launched in 8.55, changing the way in which an application was supplied and installed. In 8.56 this will be elaborated even more.
  • Elastic Search
Elastic Search was already part of 8.55.11 and is the new search engine that will replace Secure Enterprise Search (end of support April 2018). Elastic Search is based on Lucene, an open source, text-based information retrieval API. It will be further optimised in 8.56.
  • PeopleSoft User Interface
Fluid UI Enhancements - PeopleTools 8.56 offers more homepage customisation features. Fluid Forms which are used to configure and customise the UI, can now also be included in the Activity Guides.
  • PeopleSoft Update Manager Analytics
The Dashboard will look the same but will show much more information.
  • Page Composer for Approvals
This allows users to design a page without having the technical knowledge of Application Designer. With Page Composer a user can create an approval page using drag & drop fields.
Of course, this is only a brief summary of what was being presented. If, for example, you would like to know more about the impact of PUM or PT 8.56, please feel free to contact one of our PeopleSoft Campus Solutions specialists.
