In 2011, Bronovo-Nebo (BRN), LangeLand Hospital, Groene Hart Hospital, and Medisch Centrum Haaglanden (MCH) decided to join forces to leverage the synergy between the hospitals. One of the decisions made at the time was the choice of a single ERP package. Ultimately, it turned out that the ERP system of MCH and BRN, Oracle E-Business Suite, was the most suitable to share with the other two hospitals. It was precisely at that point that the collaboration between Groene Hart Hospital and MCX began. Paul Besseling, Senior Buyer, and Ewout Lasschuyt, Functional Administrator at Groene Hart Hospital, discuss the collaboration with MCX.

End of Life old ERP system

Paul Besseling: “Before the partnership with Bronovo-Nebo, LangeLand Hospital, and Medisch Centrum Haaglanden was launched, we were working with an old ERP system whose service contracts were expiring. In that respect, the collaboration with the other hospitals came at a good time, as we had to switch to a new system anyway. MCH and BRN were already working with MCX and were very satisfied. We therefore decided to outsource the hosting and technical management to MCX and to house the new environment in MCX’s Private Cloud.”

Hosting and technical management was complex

There was a second reason to outsource technical management. “Simply because we found it too complex to keep technical management in-house. We use the Oracle E-Business Suite for purchasing, logistics, and finance. Approximately 350 people work in this environment daily. To put it concretely, if the system were to go down, our patients would be at immediate risk. You can imagine what happens if, for example, operating rooms are not sufficiently supplied. In other words, this kind of work must be left to the specialist,” explains Ewout Lasschuyt.

New contract

During the partnership, all hospitals were assigned their own 'identity' in the Oracle database, preventing them from viewing each other's data. However, the other three hospitals were able to utilize the configuration and setup of MCH and BRN, allowing them to make use of the functionality relatively quickly. Since then, the situation within the hospital cooperative has changed somewhat. For instance, Bronovo and MCH have merged into a single hospital, and LangeLand Hospital has decided to withdraw from the cooperative. This means that Groene Hart Hospital separately renewed its contract with MCX two years ago. Paul Besseling: “We are and were so satisfied with the services provided by MCX that we had no reason to look for an alternative.”

Satisfied with MCX

When asked where that satisfaction comes from, Ewout is resolute: “MCX’s knowledge and expertise are good. We are in weekly contact, and I never have to explain in great detail what is going on. They immediately sense the urgency. What also works well is that MCX always thinks proactively. In addition, the response time is short. This is partly because MCX has developed a handy dashboard, which was recently updated. This dashboard makes it clear at a glance which reports are being processed and which are not. Very clear.”

Oracle Cloud?

Looking ahead to the collaboration between MCX and Groene Hart Hospital, both Paul and Ewout foresee few changes. “Oracle keeps pestering us. They really want us to switch to their own Cloud. But there is absolutely no reason for that on our part. The Oracle E-Business Suite is currently in MCX’s Private Cloud. For the time being, it isn’t going anywhere else either, because we are simply very satisfied.”
