A noticeable step forward in performance and management for SaNS
The transition to MCX has clearly improved the performance of SaNS's systems and significantly accelerated heavy processes. In addition, management has become more stable, with fewer technical issues and more scope for contributing at a strategic level.
Student information systems haven't always received positive media attention. This also applies to the systems of SaNS (Samenwerking Nieuw Studenteninformatiesysteem). This organization originally managed the systems in-house. Initially, this went fine, until the number of users increased significantly and the systems' performance came under pressure. For instance, the start of course registration became problematic: the system crashed. Partly due to these events, but also because technology is not SaNS's forte, they decided to outsource management to another external party. Following a tendering process, MCX ultimately took on the management. “We actually set three key requirements for the new administrator,” explains Patrick Vogelaar, Director of SaNS. “Performance had to be absolutely good, no data could be lost, and security was, of course, a key requirement.” Beyond these three strict requirements, SaNS also preferred a party that does not operate according to the classic client-supplier relationship. For instance, it was also important that the administrator contributes to strategic decision-making. A true sparring partner, in other words.
MCX has significantly improved the performance of SaNS's systems. Whereas in the old setting the lead time of 'heavy' processes proved to be a bottleneck, this has been greatly reduced at MCX.
By way of illustration:
- Studielink synchronization has been reduced to 33% compared to the old situation, populating the reporting tables (flat tables) to 35%, and the grade calculation process to 60%.
- The build-up of the advisory reports is now only 20% of the original turnaround time (from 107 to 21 minutes).
- The online performance for the (end) users has noticeably improved.
In addition to the performance gain, the transition to MCX can also be considered positive in other aspects:
- MCX is better able to respond more flexibly to changes affecting the infrastructure;
- There are noticeably fewer technical issues that require effort from the supplier and SaNS.
