Sweco engaged MCX to manage their extensive Oracle E-Business Suite, achieving a more stable environment and 50 percent cost savings. Despite their future ERP replacement, MCX remains a reliable and particularly pleasant partner for Sweco.
Sweco, formerly Grondmij, makes a great promise on its website. After all, the company designs and develops the societies and cities of the future. The organization does this primarily by providing engineering advice and services in the field of architecture. Sweco is one of the largest Oracle E-Business Suite users. Not in terms of size, but certainly when it comes to the number of modules they use. At the beginning of this decade, they were looking for a new hosting and management partner and eventually ended up with MCX. Speaking is Erwin Ringes, Senior Business Consultant IT at Sweco.
Virtually all modules are used
Sweco is a global company and has eight offices in the Netherlands alone. The company began searching for an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package in 2002 and eventually ended up with Oracle. From project administration to time tracking and inventory management, virtually all modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite are active. In their search for a new hosting and management partner, they quickly settled on MCX. Erwin Ringes: “It was immediately clear that MCX’s expertise is very high. We were impressed just by looking at their client portfolio. All the big names are with MCX.”
Cost savings
Expertise was not the only decisive factor in choosing MCX. The financial aspect also proved to be very attractive. “MCX works with a fixed monthly price. Do they work an hour more or less? You never hear about it. That is very pleasant. But what is even better is that, thanks to our switch, we have saved 50 percent on the costs for the management and maintenance of the E-Business Suite environment. This involves massive cost savings, which we are naturally very happy with,” says Erwin Ringes.
Satisfied with the service
Cost savings are not the only positive result of the collaboration. Thanks to MCX’s Private Cloud solution, the systems are running more stably than ever, and performance has also improved significantly. Erwin Ringes explains: “We are very satisfied with MCX’s services. We work very well with them, both at a strategic and operational level. Strategically, this is reflected in their willingness to think proactively, even when it comes to matters outside their scope. Operationally, for example, in the fact that MCX always responds very quickly to our questions. This is done via an advanced ticketing system. In addition, we work with a dedicated contact person at MCX who knows the ins and outs of everything. This collaboration is running perfectly.”
Phasing out Oracle
However, this collaboration is unlike any other. What makes it special in this case is that Sweco plans to replace the Oracle E-Business Suite with another ERP package in the future. Specifically, this means that no upgrades will be implemented; the system is, as it were, 'frozen'. Erwin Ringes therefore concludes his story with a nice compliment. “MCX is one of the most likeable suppliers I know. We demand a lot of flexibility and creativity from MCX, for example because we are working in Release 11, which is no longer supported. Despite the fact that our collaboration will end sooner or later, MCX has always been a very reliable and pleasant partner.”
