IT students at ROC Aventus explore Oracle Cloud with Mark
From the classroom to cloud-based practice

On 21 May, MCX colleague Mark, clearly in his element, addressed a group of twenty IT students from ROC Aventus. During an intensive day, he took the students on a journey into the world of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). No dry theory, but a real deep dive into the practicalities of working as an IT Service Provider.
Mark talked about his day-to-day work within OCI, discussed relatable client cases and demonstrated what technical solutions look like in practice. The morning concluded with a demo on Infrastructure as Code (IaC): setting up and managing cloud environments using code. For many students, this provided valuable insight, as they saw first-hand how modern IT infrastructure is built in practice.
After lunch, the students got to work themselves during a hands-on workshop. Working in pairs, they tackled a case study in which they had to set up a complete cloud environment using just a small piece of code. Mark actively guided the group, asked questions, provided direction and, above all, let the students discover things for themselves. By searching together, identifying errors and testing solutions, valuable insights emerged. The enthusiasm was clearly audible when the first environments were successfully up and running and relieved “yeses” rang out across the room.
An informative and energetic day in which technology, practical experience and knowledge-sharing came together – exactly what energises us as MCXers.
